Veterinary Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Becoming Dr. Depression-Solver

Is there someone in your life who seems depressed? Maybe they’re quieter than usual, more withdrawn than usual, or even seem really sad?

Whether you like them, love them or could do without them, when you notice a personality down-shift, it’s a cry for help. Care about them enough to try to help. Ask them how they’re feeling. Ask them if something is wrong because you’ve noticed they seem sad. Ask them to lunch or coffee and invite them to share.

And if they say “everything’s OK” and you still feel like there’s something wrong, trust your feelings. Ask them if they have someone in their life they can open up to. Tell them they can call you or text you or email you if they change their mind and need to talk.

People are very good at playing off depression – don’t be fooled. Be caring. You might just save a life.
