Veterinary Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Brene Brown on the Acceptance of Others
Brene Brown said, “All I know is that my life is better when I assume that people are doing their best. It keeps me out of judgement and lets me focus on what is, not what should or could be.”
People are always doing the best they can do in that moment. Sometimes their best isn’t very good, and when you stop judging them for their bad behavior and remembering that, in that particular moment, they’re doing the best they can do, suddenly your life becomes much simpler.
Assuming bad or devious motives means you’re fleshing out a movie where they’re the villain and you’re the victim. Ugh…who wants to star in a movie like that?
Assume they’re doing the best they can do, given whatever is going on in their life – and you have no way to know what’s truly going on in their life – frees you from the dumb stories your brain wants to tell you and lets you get on with your fabulous life.
