It’s not your job to make something go away in reality…it is your job to turn your focus to something you’d rather focus on.
Wait…what?
You heard right…there are very few things in life you’re actually in control of, so chances are, if you’re upset about something going on out in the world, you have minimal to no control over it. What you can control is your focus. If it’s something that’s very upsetting to you it can be tough to shift your focus, and yet, that’s the easiest way for you to create mental well-being.
Let’s say something is happening in the world that feels very very very wrong to you. You can continue to focus on it, read all the news stories about it, post on social media about it and read everyone else’s social media posts, you can argue with the ones you don’t agree with…whew!
How does that make you feel?
Or you could realize that it has happened, you did what you could do to make it not happen and it happened anyway, and it will all be taken care of and work out in the long run. And then you can choose to focus on something else.
When the anger starts to well up inside you, sing a song, either inside your head or right out of your mouth – you can’t be angry and singing at the same time. Here's a song suggestion – Let it go, let it gooooooo…
