Veterinary Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Getting Intentional with Gut Reactions

When you look in the mirror, are you hard on yourself? Do you bemoan a few extra pounds or wrinkles or grey hairs? Do you feel “less than” when you contemplate how you show up in the world?

We’ve talked about the body’s second brain – that very smart part of us that lives in the intestinal tract and deals with our emotions as well as our food. It is postulated, though not conclusively proven yet, that the “gut reaction” we’re all familiar with is indeed a response of our second brain to what’s going on around us.

You know how you can feel that someone is sad or angry or happy, even when you can’t see it on their face? Others can feel you, too. If you’re down on yourself, others feel it and may use those feelings to form their opinion of you. On the other hand, if you’re flying high, confident and happy, others feel it and may use those feelings to form their opinion of you.

How do you want others to feel about you? Use their second brain to your advantage – practice feeling good about yourself and help others feel good about you, too.
