Veterinary Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Beating Yourself Up with the Fist of Another

Are you holding a grudge? Telling the story of pain someone caused you years ago? Avoiding someone because just being around them makes you feel sick to your stomach with dread?

Forgiveness to the rescue!

Forgiveness is HUGE and it’s not that hard to do, when you realize that all those bad feelings aren’t hurting the other person at all. They don’t care that you’re beating yourself up, and if they’re really so bad, they’d probably celebrate the fact that their mere existence is messing up your life.

Quit beating yourself up with toxic emotions that set you up for stress and illness – put on your placid cow persona and forgive. Forgive the person you’re avoiding – just be a placid cow around them when your paths cross. Quit telling old, tragic stories – close your mouth and mentally chew your cud instead. And grudges are for 7-year-olds, and you’re probably just a bit older than that.

Forgive yourself, and then forgive everyone in your past, present and future. They’re just doing the best they can, and that is all they can do.
